A Hempstead man who stole a car after holding up its passenger at gunpoint last October faces a robbery charge, Nassau County police said Monday.

Byron C. Baine III, 24, of 50 Covert St., robbed a man who was sitting alone in the passenger seat of a car parked at South Franklin and Elm Avenue in Hempstead on Oct. 22, 2013, police said.

After displaying a handgun and taking the victim's debit card and phone, the suspect drove away; no injuries were reported, police said.

Baine was arrested at his home at about 1:20 a.m. Monday by Third Squad detectives and Hempstead police.

He is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery criminal use of a firearm and criminal contempt.

Police said the contempt charge is for violating an order of protection and unrelated to the alleged robbery.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
