A Hempstead man faces a first-degree assault charge after slashing another man across his neck Wednesday, Nassau County police said.

Manuel Vicente, 47, of 155 Dikeman Ave., is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead on charges of first-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Police said Vicente used a "razor knife," slashing another man, 33, "across his neck causing a deep laceration," after the two became involved in a verbal argument at about 10:18 p.m. at Mi Olivia, a restaurant at 660 Fulton Ave., Hempstead.

Vicente ran off and was arrested by Hempstead Village police a short time later on the roof of a Truro Lane residence, police said.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police on Thursday had no immediate update on his condition.
