Cops: Hempstead man charged with attempted murder after firing at vehicle
A Hempstead man was arrested early Monday and charged with two counts of attempted murder after police said he fired five shots at two people in a vehicle on a Hempstead street.
No one was injured in the Sunday afternoon shooting, Nassau police said.
James Jacobs, 30, of 14 Cathedral Ave., was arrested at 12:30 a.m. following an investigation by Third Squad detectives and Hempstead police, police said. He had a loaded handgun when arrested, police said.
Police said Jacobs, while driving on St. Regis Place on Sunday at 3:47 p.m., fired five shots at a vehicle occupied by a 26-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman. Police did not say if the vehicle was targeted or if the shooting was random.
Jacobs was charged with two counts of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He faces arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
