A Hempstead man was shot and killed early Sunday outside a Hempstead residence that is known as an after-hours party spot, Nassau police said Monday.

Blair Kearse, 24, was shot about 4:45 a.m. in front of 44 Linden Place, where several people and their vehicles were gathered just before the homicide, police said.

Several shots were fired and detected by ShotSpotter, a gunshot sound detection system launched in Nassau in 2009 to help police find the shooting location more quickly.

Kearse was taken to Nassau University Medical Center and pronounced dead at about 5:10 a.m., police said.

No details were available Monday on what caused the disturbance and whether there was a physical fight as homicide detectives continued their investigation Monday.

Ballistics evidence was found, police said.

Kearse's family and the residents of 44 Linden Place could not be reached Monday evening.

Anyone with information may call the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
