Cops: Hempstead man involved in DWI crash had loaded gun
A Hempstead man who crashed his car into a utility pole early Saturday was intoxicated and had a loaded gun in his pocket, Nassau police said.
Devon Church, 23, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, criminal possession of a weapon and possession of marijuana, police said.
Church drove his 2005 Toyota Camry into a utility pole at the corner of Kennedy and Brown avenues, in a residential part of Hempstead, at 4:10 a.m., according to police.
Police said they found the handgun in his pants pocket and a glass jar containing marijuana in the car.
Hempstead Village and Nassau police responded to the crash. No one was injured.
Church, of 89 Cliff Ave., was arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
