A 61-year-old Hicksville man suffered burns to his arms and face from a fire in his apartment Wednesday evening, Nassau police said.

He was taken by ambulance to a hospital to be treated fpr those burns and for smoke inhalation, police said, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The fire that broke out in the kitchen of his apartment on Newbridge Road was reported about 5:55 p.m., police said.

The Hicksville Fire department responded with about 100 firefighters and 10 pieces of equipment to extinguish the fire, police said.

Several residents of other apartments in the building were assisted with obtaining temporary housing by the American Red Cross and the Oyster Bay Housing Authority, police said.

Nassau detectives and the Nassau County fire marshal are investigating the fire.
