A Hicksville man has been charged with the attempted murder of his stepfather early Saturday morning, Nassau County police said.

Joseph Ohlhausen, 33, of Bruce Avenue, entered his mother and stepfather's bedroom at 1:30 a.m. and repeatedly stabbed the 58-year-old victim with a kitchen knife while he was sleeping, police said.

The stepfather, whom police did not identify, ran to a neighbor's house and called police.

He was taken to a hospital with severe cuts to his neck and hands. He is listed in serious but stable condition, according to police.

Ohlhausen's mother was not injured in the assault.

Police said there was no record of previous altercations between Ohlhausen and his stepfather.

Ohlhausen, who lives in the home, was charged with attempted murder, assault and possession of a dangerous weapon. He was transported to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation and has yet to be arraigned.
