Two Nassau police officers sustained minor injuries Wednesday while arresting one of two men wanted for an assault and burglary in Elmont, police said.

Ilex Gelin, 31, of 115-29 237th St., Elmont, was charged with first degree burglary, assault and resisting arrest. Georges Sniff, 23, of 131-49 227th St., Springfield Gardens, Queens, was charged with burglary.

An Elmont man responding at 4 a.m. to a knock on the door of his home on 237th Street, police said, was struck in the head with a brick, causing him to fall down a flight of stairs. The victim, who was known to the two men, was treated at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, police said.

Sniff was arrested on 237th Street at 5:10 a.m., police said, and Gelin was arrested at his home at the same time.

Two officers, who were not identified, were injured because Gelin fought with them, refusing to be handcuffed, police said.

Gelin and Sniff were to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court, Hempstead police said.
