Cops investigate body found in waters near Cove Neck

Three paddle boarders found the body of a fully clothed woman in the waters off a private Cove Neck beach Thursday, and police are investigating it as a possible drowning.

Will Albert, who owns a local paddle board company, was with two customers when they spotted the body floating near shore about 12:30 p.m.

"At first we thought it was a life jacket in the reeds, but when we pushed it with a paddle we saw it was a woman, facedown," said Albert, 57, of Oyster Bay.

The woman was wearing a blue-and-red striped T-shirt, denim capri pants but no shoes, he said.

The paddle boarders said they saw no apparent injuries to the body.

Albert said he paddled to shore, flagged down a car and asked the motorist to call 911 while his customers stayed with the body.

A woman who lives in the only house nearby said she wasn't home when the body was found and knew nothing about it.

Police restricted the beach area for several hours while they investigated.
