Police are investigating the robbery of a 49-year-old man whose gold necklace was snatched Friday afternoon as he walked to his parked car on Church Street in Freeport, police said.

The unidentified victim was approached from behind by a robber who then reached for the chain around his neck, Nassau County police said Sunday in a news release.

The victim used his right elbow to push the suspect away, after which a second robber exited a gray Jaguar and punched the victim in his face, authorities said. The first robber removed the necklace from the victim.

Both subjects fled in the Jaguar, which was last seen heading north on South Main Street, police said. The victim sustained cuts to his elbow and knees but did not seek immediate medical attention.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
