Cops: Long Beach man charged in 2 robberies
A Long Beach man has been arrested after he, along with two accomplices, robbed a food market in Hempstead at gunpoint and two weeks later robbed two men on a street in Freeport at gunpoint, police said.
Jamar Felder, 23, of 105 Ea. Pine St. in Long Beach, is under arrest, charged with four counts of first-degree robbery and two counts of first-degree criminal use of a firearm, Nassau County police said.
He is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said they are still searching for the accomplices.
The first robbery took place at the Mabel Food Market on Stewart Avenue in Hempstead just before 10 p.m. on Jan. 19, police said.
It was then that Felder and two other men entered the market, displayed a silver handgun, and stole cash and a box of cigars before fleeing the scene on foot, police said.
Then, on Feb. 1 at 10 p.m., police said Felder and two others approached two young men in front of a home on Whaley Street in Freeport. One of the trio displayed a black handgun, police said, the other a silver revolver. They stole a wallet containing cash and personal papers and a cellphone, police said. Then they fled.
Police said First Squad and Third Squad detectives, along with Robbery Squad detectives conducted an investigation and said Felder was arrested without incident Tuesday on Cooper Street in Hempstead.
