Cops: Long Beach man hit, killed by car
A pedestrian died after being struck by a car Friday morning on East Park Avenue in Long Beach, police said.
Sean McCarthy, 50, of Long Beach, was killed when he was struck by a 1988 Chevrolet Corvette being driven by a 60-year-old man. The Corvette was traveling westbound on Park Avenue, Nassau police said, and McCarthy was walking north to south on Maple Boulevard when he was hit about 5:56 a.m.
He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, where he was pronounced dead at 8:57 a.m., police said.
Investigators from both the Long Beach police department and Nassau County police Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene. Police said there was no criminality in the crash.
