Cops make arrest in Dairy Barn robbery

On Wednesday, police responded to a trespassing call at a Remsen Street address in Seaford, where they found a 2005 Ford van that had been reported stolen from the Seaford railroad station.

Police said that Christopher J. Kelly, 23, who used to live at the location but now lives at a different address on Remsen Street, had been seen at the location earlier in the day.

Kelly was found to be carrying proceeds from the Dairy Barn robbery and was arrested without incident, police said. The weapon from Monday's robbery was found in the stolen vehicle, police said.

The Dairy Barn at 907 N. Broadway, Massapequa, was robbed Monday by a man who walked in at about 9:15 p.m., showed the weapon and demanded money from the cashier, police said.

The robber reached into the register, taking an unspecified amount of money, then left on foot, traveling south on North Maple Street, police said.

Police said the weapon could have been a drywall knife, about 8 inches to 10 inches long, with a reddish handle.

No injuries were reported and no customers were in the store at the time of the robbery.

Kelly was charged with first-degree robbery, third-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon and second-degree criminal trespass.

His arraignment was to be Wednesday in First District Court, Hempstead.
