Nassau police have arrested a Queens man in connection with an assault involving officers in New Hyde Park.

According to police, Arturo Salazar, 21, of Queens Village, was at a party at a residence on Baxter Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday when he got in a verbal dispute with a woman.

When police arrived, they saw Salazar's vehicle running in a driveway with the passenger door open and 15 small bags of marijuana on the front seat.

After Salazar was arrested, police said, he became violent and combative, kicking one officer while biting another numerous times on the hands and elbow. The bitten officer was treated at a hospital and released.

Salazar is charged with assault, obstruction of government administration, driving while impaired on drugs and marijuana possession. He's scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
