Cops: Man arrested after using bogus bill at pizza place

Police said a Brooklyn man used a counterfeit $20 bill at a pizza place on South Broadway in Hicksville on Thursday and was caught and arrested by officers who found him hiding under a car on a nearby street.
Steven M. Baez, 28, of 2957 Ave. X, is charged with first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and is scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Nassau County police said Baez used the bill to make a purchase at Pizza Cafe on South Broadway at 8:07 p.m.
It was not immediately clear when the bill was determined to be a counterfeit, but police said Baez "fled the scene on foot" -- and was later located by Second Precinct officers hiding under a car about a block away on Chatham Court.
Police are asking anyone with information about similar crimes to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
