Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a robbery attempt early Friday in which a man pulled a handgun on two woman walking in Woodmere, Nassau County police said.

The two women, ages 20 and 18, were walking on Greenfield Road near Eastwood Road at about 3:40 a.m. when a man with a silver handgun approached them, police said.

The man demanded the 20-year-old's purse and she refused, police said.

The man pushed both women to the ground, but one of the women said she called 911 and the man fled on foot, police said.

Police said the man was seen entering the passenger side of a black sport utility vehicle that drove toward Peninsula Boulevard.
