A man who tried to rob a New Hyde Park credit union Monday was captured when a holdup alarm alerted police, Nassau authorities said.

Joseph Holler, 23, of New Hyde Park, handed a written demand to a teller at the Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union on Marcus Avenue about 9 a.m., Nassau police said.

Third Precinct officers quickly arrived after the holdup alarm was set off and saw Holler inside the credit union before he was able to take any money, police said.

Holler saw the officers, too, and ran out the side door, going south on Marcus Avenue, police said.

But officers captured him in the yard of a home on Nortema Court, not far from the credit union, police said.

Holler, of 9 Midland Dr., was charged with first-degree attempted robbery and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

At the time of the incident, police said, six employees and four customers were in the credit union and no injuries were reported.
