Cops: Man charged after stealing money in eBay deal
A Brooklyn man hired a broker to sell cameras on eBay then never sent the cameras to the buyer or gave the broker his cut of the sale, Nassau County police said Monday.
Ruben Segura, 22, of 193 Jamaica Ave., was arrested on a charge of third-degree grand larceny at his home at about 7:20 a.m., First Squad detectives said.
Segura hired another man, 22, from a Craigslist advertisement to sell two cameras for him on March 1, police said.
The man sold then the cameras on eBay for more than $4,600 and transferred the money to Segura's account, police said.
Segura never sent the cameras to the buyer and did not give the middle man -- the seller he hired -- their agreed-upon percentage of the sale, police said.
The victim repaid the buyer from his own funds, police said.
Segura is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said anyone who believes they have been a victim of Segura in a similar deal can call the First Squad at 516-573-6153.
