A Freeport man was arrested on Sunday morning after robbing a store in Baldwin, then struggling with police officers as they attempted to arrest him, Nassau police said.

A detective from the first precinct saw Charles D. Grandberry, 46, putting items in his pants at a CVS drugstore on Merrick Road at about 9:55 a.m. on Sunday, police said.

After Grandberry left the store and rode away on a bicycle, the detective followed the suspect to a laundromat on Merrick Road and attempted to arrest him, police said.

Grandberry fled into the parking lot, where additional officers stopped him, and he began to struggle, injuring the right knee of one of the officers, police said.

The officer was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

Grandberry was arrested and charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree assault, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
