A Hempstead man has been arrested on robbery and weapons charges after using a handgun to rob another Hempstead man last month, Nassau County Third Squad detectives said Thursday.

On July 23, at about 12:30 a.m., police said Marlon L. Stewart, 21, of 67 Terrace Ave., Apt. A2, approached a 45-year-old man near Jackson Street and Terrace Avenue. Stewart pulled a black handgun, police said, pointed it at the victim and demanded his belongings and cash.

Stewart took a cellular telephone and an undetermined amount cash, police said. There were no injuries.

Stewart was arrested Wednesday night around 11:38 at 277 South Franklin Ave., police said.

He was charged with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon in the incident, police said.

Stewart also has an open warrant for assault, criminal possession and sale of a controlled substance and criminal mischief relating to a Jan. 5, 2008, incident when he resisted arrest and kicked out the rear passenger side window of a police car, police said.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
