A man was fatally shot on a residential street in Baldwin on Saturday morning, police said.
Det. Sgt. James Skopek of the Nassau County Police Department's homicide squad told reporters at the scene that police got a call reporting shots fired in front of a home on Woodoak Drive in south Baldwin shortly before 1 a.m.
Responding officers found a man with a single gunshot wound, inflicted by a person he had apparently been arguing with, police said.
Paramedics took the victim to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, where he was pronounced dead about 5:25 a.m. The man's name was not immediately released.
Skopek said police believe the argument -- possibly involving the homeowner -- preceded the shooting. He said investigators are interviewing a witness. No arrests have been made.
Other details about the homicide -- which occurred near Bertha Drive -- were not immediately available.
