Gunmen in Baldwin mortally wounded one man and shot another in the stomach on Tuesday at the same house where an assailant committed a home-invasion robbery about two weeks ago, Nassau police said Wednesday.

Both cases are unsolved and the assailants remain at large, Det. Sgt. Anthony Repalone, a county police spokesman, said Wednesday.

Nothing appears to have been stolen in Tuesday's violence at the one-family home, which is on Washington Place near Baldwin Harbor, he said.

"Apparently the house was targeted," Repalone said, adding, "Every possibility is being looked into, whether it be drugs or whatever."

Police have not released the names of the slain man, who was found dead on the kitchen floor, or the wounded victim.

The survivor was found in a bedroom and has undergone surgery for his wound. He's expected to survive, Repalone said. "Obviously he's a key witness to our investigation," he said.

The shooting happened around 11 p.m., when a man entering the home was confronted by two or three assailants, who forced him inside, police said.

A woman, who police said is the girlfriend of the wounded victim, was home at the time of the crime. Neither she nor the man entering the home were injured.

In the Aug. 13 home invasion, a man entering the back door was confronted by an assailant with a gun, who pushed his way inside and stole a television, video camera, a pit bull, a laptop and a safe with $10,000. The victim ran out and "hid in some bushes," police said at the time.

Police are still investigating whether the Aug. 13 home invasion is related to the shooting and why the home was targeted.

Word of the death rattled some neighbors.

"It's a tragic thing that happened," said Leonard Stambler, who lives next door.
