A 9-year-old girl told police that an unknown man yelled to her to "come here" as she stepped from a school bus Thursday in Lakeview, then followed her as she ran home -- before he disappeared.

Nassau County police said the "unusual incident" occurred at about 4 p.m. near the intersection of Pinelake Drive and Champlain Avenue. The incident was reported by the girl's mother.

Police said the man is described as being about 5-foot-5 and wearing a blue jacket. No other details were immediately known.

Police said the girl told them that after the man yelled "come here," she became frightened and ran home with the suspect walking "rapidly behind her."

Police said that after the girl entered the house she said she looked out a window, but the man was no longer there.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
