A man found dead Saturday behind an East Meadow synagogue was a Jamaican national who died from an apparent drug overdose, Nassau County police said.

The name of the man, 34, is being withheld pending family notification, police said.

He was found after a caller told 911 about a man walking and stumbling on Merrick Avenue near Hempstead Turnpike just before 3:45 p.m., police said.

When officers arrived, they found his body in the rear parking area of Temple Emanu-El on Merrick Avenue, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Detectives did not find any apparent signs of trauma, police said, and are awaiting toxicology reports from the medical examiner.
