Cops: Man illegally tattooed teens
A Westbury man who is not licensed as a tattoo artist was arrested Monday after he used permanent ink to tattoo underage customers, Nassau County police said.
Ivan Cordoba, 29 of 20 Hillcrest Dr., faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful dealing with a child, assault and unauthorized practice of a crime, Third Squad detectives said.
The latter charge means Cordoba was practicing a profession in which a license is a required, police said. He was arrested at about 12:30 a.m. at his home, police said.
Cordoba tattooed two minors -- a 16-year-old girl on her shoulder and a 14-year-old boy on his chest -- on two separate occasions and also tattooed a 37-year-old woman, police said.
In New York State, tattooing a minor -- even with parental consent -- is a crime, according to the state's website.
Police said their investigation also revealed Cordoba had an open warrant for second-degree assault.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
