A Massapequa Park man was arrested Tuesday on charges of trying to steal copper wire from a vacant building in Plainview, Nassau County police said.

Eighth Squad detectives said James A. Vitale, 48, of 340 Massachusetts Ave., entered a building on Old Country Road about 2:50 p.m.

However, he triggered an alarm, and responding officers found him in the building, according to a news release.

Vitale was arrested and charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
