A man pulled from a Baldwin apartment that was on fire late Saturday has died, police said Monday.
Firefighters, responding to an apartment fire on Old Mill Road about 11:30 p.m., found the man unconscious and not breathing inside the apartment, Baldwin Fire Department Chief Karen Bendel said Sunday.
Rescue workers did CPR at the scene and he was transported by ambulance to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside.
"He definitely had smoke inhalation," Bendel said.
A Nassau County police spokeswoman said Monday the man has died. She had no further information, including the victim's identity.
The cause of death is pending until results of an autopsy are known.
Bendel said the fire was contained to one apartment and did not spread to the rest of the building.
