Cops: Man pulls knife on acquaintance
A Hicksville man was arrested Thursday after police said he tried to rob an acquaintance at knifepoint only to have the victim ride off on a bicycle -- and report the incident to police.
Christian Menendez, 20, of 94 Dartmouth Dr., was arrested a short time later on charges of first-degree attempted robbery.
Nassau County police said the robbery attempt occurred at 3:25 p.m., when Menendez approached the 18-year-old victim, who was on a bike, near the intersection of Cedar Street and Woodbury Road. Police said Menendez, armed with a knife, demanded the teen empty his pockets. Instead, police said, the teen rode off and called 911.
No one was injured, but Menendez was arrested a short time later near the intersection of Cedar and Stanley Street. Menendez faces arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
