A 26-year-old man walking along a street in New Cassel was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday, police said.

Nassau County police said the robbers, identified only as two male subjects, demanded cash, but the victim didn't have any and instead handed over cigarettes to the pair.

The robbery occurred near the intersection of Dayton Street and Anna Avenue at about 12:20 a.m., police said.

Police said the victim, whose identity was not released, was not injured. The suspects fled westbound on Anna.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the armed robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
