Cops: Man shot in Freeport was fugitive
A man wanted on a parole warrant for a robbery conviction is being extradited back to New Jersey after he was shot in the leg in Freeport Sunday, Nassau County police said.
Mitch Singletary went to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside with a gunshot wound to his leg at about 3:40 p.m., police said. He gave false information about his identity and the location of shooting, police said.
Authorities later identified him as Singletary, a fugitive wanted in New Jersey, and learned that the shooting happened at Columbus and Grand avenues, police said.
Singletary, whose address is unknown, will soon be extradited to New Jersey, officials said.
Police ask that anyone with information about the shooting call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. Calls will remain confidential, police said.
