An Oceanside man was arrested early Friday morning in Rockville Centre after police said he broke into a CVS pharmacy and stole more than $400 worth of cigarettes.

Patrick McHale, 21, of Locust Avenue was arrested after Rockville Centre police responding to an alarm stopped him walking out of the CVS lot with a fire extinguisher and a large plastic bag filled with cartons of cigarettes at 1:14 a.m.

Police said an investigation revealed the glass doors to the CVS were broken and the store had been burglarized. Police said McHale used the fire extinguisher to break the doors.

McHale was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.

He is scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
