Cops: Man snatches woman's wallet at NCC

Nassau police have arrested a Plainview man and charged him with snatching a woman's wallet on the campus of Nassau Community College Thursday in East Garden City.

Evan H. Artz, 25, of 26 Cornell Dr., is accused of approaching a 22-year-old student from behind at about 2:30 p.m. and reaching into her pocketbook to grab her wallet, police said.

The victim screamed, alerting other students, who intervened to capture the suspect as he tried to run away, police said. One student tackled the suspect and he was arrested.

The victim's wallet was returned.

Artz is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Hempstead on a third-degree robbery charge.
