A 55-year-old man was stabbed once in the chest with an unknown object after a confrontation with three men who Nassau County police said tried to rob him Wednesday night in Rockville Centre.

The identity of the victim was not released. Police said that, after the incident, he went to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

The incident occurred on North Park Avenue near Front Street at about 11:20 p.m., according to a police account.

Police said the victim was riding a bicycle when a black Honda pulled up next to him -- and the driver, who was bald, "asked him if he had a light."

Two men then jumped out of the vehicle and began to fight with the victim, police said.

It was not clear if anything was taken. Police said the victim was able to break from his attackers and flee, but said that once he returned home he realized he had been stabbed.

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
