A man filled two black plastic bags with meat Saturday afternoon at a Merrick supermarket and walked out without paying, police said.

James Collins, 48, of Baldwin was arrested and charged with petty larceny, according to Nassau police.

Police said a loss prevention officer at the Stop & Shop on Merrick Avenue saw Collins loading the bags with "assorted meat products" at about 3 p.m.

"He did not try to make payment for the products, and he was stopped outside the store," a police spokeswoman said.

The value of the stolen meat wasn't immediately available.
