Cops: Man steals clothes, assaults security
A 34-old Queens man was arrested Sunday after he assaulted loss prevention agents who attempted to question him about stealing clothes from a Hicksville department store.
Two women, who Nassau County police said were seen on video surveillance with the man, fled the scene with a female child during the assault, police said.
Luis Pulgarin, 34, of College Point Boulevard, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, police said. He faces arraignment Monday in First District Court, Hempstead.
Police are still searching for the two women.
The incident occurred at the Sears on North Broadway in Hicksville at 2:20 p.m.
Police said security officers monitoring video surveillance cameras saw Pulgarin remove security tags from more than $1,000 worth of clothing, conceal that merchandise in a bag and exit the store without making a payment for the clothes.
The guards then confronted Pulgarin, who, police said, put up "a violent struggle" -- even knocking one of the guards to the ground, causing the agent to suffer a cut elbow.
Police said Pulgarin was eventually restrained and was arrested by responding officers, but said that during the struggle the women fled.
