A Deer Park man was arrested on burglary charges Tuesday, police said, after he contacted his victim in North Long Beach, and offered to return her stolen jewelry.

Peter Noto, 49, of 58 W. Sixth St., was charged with two counts of burglary, police said, for burglarizing the same home twice on May 8, Nassau police said.

Noto entered the apartment on Macdonald Road, North Long Beach through a bathroom window, police said, but ran away when the 44-year-old female resident confronted him, police said.

But he was not dissuaded, police said, and re-entered the apartment later that same day, after the victim had left, Nassau police said.

The second time, he was successful, and took prescription drugs and jewelry, police said. But he recently contacted the victim and offered to return the jewelry, police said.

It was not clear Tuesday night whether his contacting the woman led directly to his arrest Tuesday in Freeport. He was to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court, Hempstead.
