Cops: Man stole items from parked cars in Wantagh

A Levittown man was arrested in Wantagh Thursday and charged with possession of items stolen from parked cars, Nassau police said.

Stephen M. Crawford, 44, of 31 Hunter Lane, was seen in the vicinity of Briard Street and Edgerton Avenue about 5:30 a.m. shortly after the car thefts, police said.

Crawford hid in bushes on Edgerton Avenue, police said, but aided by a police K-9 unit, officers located him and recovered five GPS systems and a camera.

Crawford was to be arraigned Friday in First District Court, Hempstead.
