Nassau County police have charged a 34-year-old Bayside man with robbery for allegedly stealing an elderly man's van and wallet on the Hempstead Turnpike on Monday.

Rickey Emmons, of 211th Street, demanded the wallet of a 72-year-old man who sat inside his 1996 Dodge Caravan in front of 2000 Hempstead Tpke., police said.

The victim was trying to get out of the vehicle when a short struggle ensued, resulting in both men falling to the ground, police said. Emmons then stole the victim's wallet and car keys, taking the victim's van to flee east on Hempstead Turnpike, police said.

The van was later found a short distance away on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow. No one was injured, police said.

Emmons has been charged with second-degree robbery and is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.
