Cops: Man tried to kidnap baby in Roosevelt
A man tried to snatch a baby from its mother's arms Tuesday afternoon at a Roosevelt intersection before giving up and fleeing, Nassau police said.
The mother was at the intersection of Nassau Road and Centennial Avenue about 1:15 p.m., police said, when an unknown man ran up and tried to grab the child.
The baby, described as an infant, was strapped to the mother's chest in a baby carrier, police said, adding that when the mother resisted, the suspect gave up and ran off.
Neither mother nor child were injured, police said.
The man was wearing a white hat, blue jeans, a black T-shirt and black jacket, police said. He was 35 to 40 years old, thin and about 6 feet tall, police said.
Detectives asked that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
