Cops: Man tried to rob 79-year-old of car in Wantagh

A man was arrested Friday after he tried to rob a 79-year-old man of his 2008 Acura on Wantagh Avenue in Wantagh, Nassau County police said.

Salvatore Curti, 30, who police said has no known address, was accused of confronting the victim as the man attempted to exit his Acura at 2:26 p.m. Curti tried to pry the car keys from the man's hand and pushed the victim to the ground, police said.

Seventh Precinct officers' investigation led to Curti's arrest, at which time Curti was found to be in possession of Xanax.

Police said the victim sought medical attention privately. Curti was charged with two counts of attempted robbery and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was awaiting arraignment Saturday.
