Nassau police are searching for a man who attempted to rob a woman as she left an ATM in Hewlett on Sunday afternoon.

The 66-year-old woman had just made a withdrawal at the Chase Bank drive-up ATM on Peninsula Boulevard when she was approached by a man holding a cigarette.

The man reached into her car with his right hand, demanding cash and stating that he had a gun, police said.

The woman put her car into gear and drove to the Fourth Precinct stationhouse to report the attempted robbery.

No money was taken, and the woman stated that she did not see a gun. She was uninjured.

The man was described as in his late 40s, between 5'6" and 5'8", about 170 pounds, clean-shaven and wearing a dark baseball cap backwards and a dark shirt.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-244-TIPS
