A Mineola man surrendered to police Thursday and was charged with burglary -- admitting, Nassau County police said, he had broken into his friend's house in order to steal video games.
Police said Mathew Long, 18, of 149 Jackson Ave., surrendered to detectives at the Third Precinct in Williston Park at 11:05 p.m. He was charged with second-degree burglary and is scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said Long told detectives he had gone to the house on Fairfield Avenue in Mineola around noon Thursday, then entered the home through a side window, in an attempt to steal video games from a friend who lived there. But, on entering the home, police said Long was confronted by a 33-year-old woman who was staying at the house -- telling her he had come to "borrow" games.
After the confrontation, Long left empty-handed, police said. But police said the woman told the friend's mother what happened and she called police to report the break-in, leading to Long's surrender later that night.
