Cops: Man worked as dentist but not trained

A New Cassel man who has been working as a dentist from his home was rooted out Wednesday by Nassau police detectives because he had no training and license, authorities said.

Manuel Carranza, 46, of 483 Grand Blvd., had patients and had been running his business for a year before being arrested about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

He is to be arraigned Thursday on several charges, including unauthorized practice, a felony, at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.

Detectives went to his home after getting a telephone call about his unlicensed business, police said.

His office had dental equipment and various prescription medications as well as two electronic stun guns that he told police he found, authorities said. Carranza also showed a forged New York State identification card, police said.

Carranza also is scheduled to be arraigned on second-degree possession of a forged instrument, two counts of fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon and fourth-degree criminal diversion of a prescription.
