Cops: Masked duo robbed W. Hempstead store
Robbery Squad detectives are investigating a Friday evening robbery of a smoke shop in West Hempstead, Nassau County police said.
According to detectives, two "male subjects" wore black masks and brandished a small black handgun at 6:08 p.m. when they demanded money from an employee at Fortune Smoke Stax, 485 Hempstead Tpke. Both subjects fled the store southbound on South Cherry Valley Avenue after getting an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
The store employee, who was not injured, described the first subject as 5-foot-8, of medium build and wearing a black hooded jacket, black mask, knit gloves and carrying the handgun. The second subject was described as 5-foot-4, heavyset and wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket and a black mask.
Detectives ask anyone with information about this robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
