A group of men, many of whom wore masks, stabbed a teenager and stole a cellphone in an assault in Freeport Tuesday, Nassau County police said.

A 17-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital with a punctured lung after the assault by a "large group of males" on Dehnhoff Avenue at about 8:35 p.m., police said.

Four men were approached by the larger group, which had several men wearing bandannas and face masks, and told to stop walking, police said.

The four men, who told police they felt "uncomfortable," started to run away. But one of the men yelled that he had been stabbed.

The group of assailants fled after taking a cellphone, police said.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
