A Freeport man was arrested Sunday morning on the Meadowbrook State Parkway on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated and five other charges including aggravated unlicensed driving and driving without an interlock device, State Police said.

A trooper stopped Carlos Quintanilla, 24, about 8:30 a.m. near the Hempstead Turnpike for exceeding the speed limit, driving 82 mph in a 55 mph zone. A breath sample showed his blood alcohol at 0.12 percent, police said. The DWI was charged as a felony because Quintanilla has had at least one DWI conviction in the past 10 years, police said.

Online records of the New York State Court system showed that Quintanilla faced arraignment Monday in First District Court, Hempstead.

Interlock devices are required under Leandra's Law, a measure named for an 11-year-old Bronx girl killed in 2009. The law requires that those convicted of DWI operate, for at least six months, only vehicles equipped with devices that block ignition when the driver's breath sample shows alcohol intake.
