Two Long Island men are facing grand larceny charges after prosecutors say they charged nearly $13,000 to a Bethpage School District account to ship personal items sold on eBay.
Edward Catalano and George Maggio Jr. were arrested Thursday morning and were awaiting arraignment.
Nassau DA Kathleen Rice says Catalano worked as the district’s stores clerk and was authorized to make UPS shipments. But for more than two years, prosecutors say Catalano and Maggio, a custodian, used the account to ship more than 1,611 items they had sold on eBay.
Catalano has resigned and Maggio has been suspended. Maggio’s attorney declined comment and Catalano’s lawyer did not immediately return a telephone message.
If convicted, they could face a sentence of up to seven years.
