Cops: Merrick man charged in gas station robbery
Nassau police arrested a Merrick man Monday at the First Precinct station house and charged him with robbing a gas station.
Yama Basir, 26, of 1791 Wilson Ave., was held for arraignment at First District Court, Hempstead, on a single charge of third-degree robbery, police said.
Detectives said Basir robbed a Valero gas station at 1470 Jerusalem Ave., North Merrick, on the morning of July 19.
He "approached a cashier and demanded cash," then ran away eastbound on Jerusalem Avenue, a police report said. He did not show a weapon and no one was injured, police said.
Court records Monday did not provide bail requirements or other details of his arraignment.
