Cops: Merrick mom charged under Leandra's Law

A Merrick woman faces a felony charge of driving drunk under Leandra's Law after State Police stopped her Saturday for traffic violations on the Meadowbrook State Parkway in North Merrick, police said Monday.

Tracy McCulloch, 38, failed sobriety tests after being pulled over in a gray Honda south of the Southern State Parkway with her two children as passengers at about 10:50 p.m., State Police said in a news release.

McCulloch is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and several traffic violations, including operating without a driver's license and operating an unregistered vehicle, police said.

Her arraignment information was not immediately available.

The law was passed in 2009 after the death of Leandra Rosado, 11, who was killed in an DWI accident after the minivan in which she was a passenger crashed on West Side Highway in Manhattan.
