According to detectives, on 5/21/11, an official with the East Meadow Baseball Little League and his son received letters of a threatening nature from defendant Janet Chiauzzi 44, of 2148 Central Dr. N, after the defendants son didnt make the travel team. An East Meadow woman upset about her son not being picked for a baseball travel team sent menacing letters to a Little League official and his son, threatened the official's wife and daughter, and made false claims that he abused his children, Nassau police said Sunday.

Janet Chiauzzi, 44, was arrested Saturday at 10 p.m. at her home on Central Drive North, police said. She was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Sunday on charges of second- and third-degree stalking, falsely reporting an incident in the third degree, endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree aggravated harassment.

She did not respond to a phone message seeking comment.

Chiauzzi has two children involved in East Meadow Baseball Softball Association activities, said Edward Bergman, an association commissioner. On May 21, after one of her sons was not chosen for a summer Little League travel team -- made up of the area's best players -- Chiauzzi wrote one association official and his young son "letters of a threatening nature," police said in a statement.

The letters also mentioned the official's wife and daughter, police said. Both of the official's children are under 14. Police did not identify the official or release specific details about the letters' contents.

On June 1, Chiauzzi sent a letter to the principal of the official's children's school, accusing the official of child abuse, police said. A Nassau Child Protective Services probe deemed the claims unfounded, police said.

Police said Chiauzzi sent six other letters to association officials demanding that the official be removed from his position.

Bergman said he and other officials notified police after they received unsigned letters that were threatening to another official in the last month but wouldn't talk about the contents.

"It got a little bit personal," Bergman said.

Association officials said the situation will be discussed at a board meeting Monday. They declined to comment further.
